Relief Sculpture

Relief is an ancient forms of sculptural practice. Its’ relationship to architecture makes it useful in interior design where sculpture in the round may be inappropriate. It combines two- dimensional compositional and three-dimensional formal skills.

Children of Mercury

Bronze/Resin 66 x 65cm

This piece is inspired by a 15th Century print with an astrological theme. The sculptor is pausing from his work to receive a drink from a couple seated at their table of plenty. The man at the table is restraining his female companion’s arm in a way that suggests he does not want to offer sustenance.

Model in studio

Bronze 38 x 37cm

I worked in this studio for a number of years and was often impressed by the effect the light had on the furniture and models. At times the light and shade could merge the objects quite closely together. This is an impression that I have set out to convey in this piece.
